On June 27, 2014, the kickoff meeting of the FWO WOG B.STS-network was organized in the Irish College of Leuven. About 30 representatives of the main Belgian and international research units were present.
In the morning the participants discussed on how to get an academic network started and stabilized. This discussion was based on the inspiring insights of prof. Andrew Webster (York University) and prof. Sally Wyatt (Maastricht University) who, in their role of chairs of, respectively, the UK STS network and the Dutch WTMC network, shared some tricks and trades.
During the lunch and the afternoon, some time was spent learning to know each other and each other’s research interests. Using the Pecha Kucha-format, scholars from the Life Sciences and Society Lab (KU Leuven), Law Science Technology and Society (VUB), Vlaams Instituut voor Technologisch Onderzoek, Milieu en Samenleving (UAnwerpen) and the Center for Logic and Philosophy of Science (UGent) presented their ongoing research and research groups.
We finished this interesting first gathering day with a short forward look on the research activities for 2014-2015 and then set off for a nice reception and the making of this first historical picture of the B.STS group.
